Class/mechanism: Human-mouse chimeric monoclonal antibody which binds interleukin-6 (IL-6). Siltuximab prevents IL-6 from binding to soluble and membrane-bound IL-6 receptors. Blocking IL-6 activity interferes with its processes such immunoglobulin secretion. Systemic manifestations in patients with multicentric Castleman’s disease (MCD) has been associated with overproduction of IL-6.
