General information
Class/mechanism: Iron chelating agent; binds with ferric ions and forms neutral 3:1 (deferiprone:iron) complexes that are stable over a wide range of pH values. Deferiprone has higher binding affinity for iron than other metals such as copper, aluminum, and zinc.[1][2]
