Teniposide (Vumon)

General information

Class/mechanism: Topoisomerase II inhibitor. Teniposide inhibits type II topoisomerase, which results in single and double-stranded DNA breaks and DNA-protein crosslinks. It is cell-cycle specific, acting in late S or early G2, preventing cells from entering mitosis. It is dissolved in Cremophor EL (polyoxyethylated castor oil), which may cause hypersensitivity infusion reactions.
