The Gail model Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Tool takes into account the following risk factors:
- Current age (Gail model only calculates risk for women at least 35 years old)
- Age at menarche; that is, the age at the time of the first period
- Age at first live birth or whether the patient has never had children
- Number of first-degree relatives (mother, sisters, daughters) with breast cancer
- Number of previous benign breast biopsies
- Atypical hyperplasia in a previous breast biopsy
- Race/ethnicity
