Definition

  • Mild eosinophilia: Absolute eosinophil count 500 to 1500 cells/uL
  • Moderate eosinophilia: Absolute eosinophil count 1500 to 5000 cells/uL
  • Severe eosinophilia: Absolute eosinophil count >5000 cells/uL

Evaluation

May consist of:

  • CBC with differential
  • Comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP)
  • Peripheral smear
  • Vitamin B12
  • Troponin I
  • CK
  • ANCA
  • Strongyloides Antibody
  • CHIC2, 4q12 Deletion (FIP1L1 and PDGFRA Fusion) FISH.
  • T-Cell Receptor Gene Rearrangement PCR.
  • Flow cytometry
  • BCR-ABL FISH
  • Immunoglobulins IgG, IgA, IgM
  • Cortisol
  • HIV, HTLV-I, HTLV-II serologies
  • Serum tryptase
  • Stool ova and parasites
  • Chest x-ray
  • Echocardiogram
  • CT scans to evaluate for pulmonary pathology, lymphadenopathy
  • Bone marrow biopsy
  • Pulmonary function tests (PFTs)
  • Clinical/infection history, international travel
