Definition

Platelet count greater than or equal to 450 x 109/L (local reference ranges may vary).[1]

Initial evaluation

May consist of:

  • CBC with differential
  • Iron, total iron binding capacity (TIBC), ferritin
  • JAK2 V617F mutation
  • CALR exon 9 indels
  • MPL exon 10 mutations
  • Peripheral smear
  • Splenectomy
  • Clinical history (e.g. recent surgery or other reasons for reactive thrombocytosis), lifestyle factors
