Position Summary

HemOnc.org is seeking one or more dedicated and detail-oriented Clinical Interns for a year-long appointment. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the HemOnc knowledgebase and related projects. The intern will primarily work remotely and collaborate with the editorial board to enhance and update clinical practice guidelines content.

Responsibilities

  • Content Updating: The focus of such updates is at the discretion of the Intern and their mentor, with input from the editorial board. An example of a previous intern project is the updating of clinical practice guidelines content on the HemOnc.org website. This included creating a searchable database of clinical practice guidelines sourced from professional societies, detailing the society information, year of guideline issuance, and author(s) if the guideline was published in a journal format.
  • Manuscript Development: Develop at least one manuscript related to the work.
  • Conference Calls: Attend quarterly editorial board conference calls.
  • Progress Reporting: Provide a quarterly progress report in writing, including hours worked and goals achieved.
  • Presentations: Present for 15-30 minutes on project(s) at one of the quarterly editorial board conference calls in 2024 or 2025.

Qualifications

  • Current enrollment or recent completion of a Hematology/Oncology or similar fellowship program (applies to physicians only)
  • Open to MDs, DOs, or any allied health professionals (PharmD, APP) in the US; ex-US individuals welcome to apply, but are not eligible for stipend
  • Strong interest in cancer and blood disorders and medical content development.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in data management and basic research methodologies.

Mentorship and Supervision

The intern will be primarily mentored by Dr. Andrew Cowan, Deputy Editor of HemOnc.org, with potential opportunities to work with other members of the editorial board based on the intern's interests.

Compensation and Conditions

The intern will receive a stipend of $5,000, payable in quarterly increments. Acceptance of this stipend requires confirmation that it does not create a conflict of interest with clinical duties or primary employment, and that the intern's primary supervisor is aware of this arrangement. An updated W-9 form will be required to process payment, and this income will be reported to the IRS.
