HemOnc.org - A Free Hematology/Oncology Reference

This is a project started on 11/11/11 which is intended to be a hematology/oncology reference. It currently will serve as a repository of information for myself, but I hope that it can also be useful for other hematology/oncology professionals. For now, all information here should be considered to be "beta"--that is, in the development phase. By using this site, you are indicating that you have read and agree with the terms set forth in the disclaimer. Initial priorities of this project will consist of:

  1. Creating a database of chemotherapy agents.
  2. Creating an index of diseases.
  3. Creating a list of chemotherapeutic regimens, common order sets, including supportive medications, and references to primary literature (PubMed and direct links to the abstracts/full articles).
  4. Aggregating useful links to existing resources.

Additional possibilities for this project may include:

  1. Creating a list of active BIDMC clinical trials that can be used by current providers.
  2. Creating checklists that can be used for patients starting therapy with particular regimens. Areas of focus will include: informed consent/discussion of side effects, supportive medications, dose/schedule adjustments, and the chemotherapy orders themselves.
  3. List of ICD-9 codes.

The field of hematology/oncology is ever-changing, and my eventual hope is that other people will be interested in contributing to make it a far more useful resource. The rapidly evolving nature of the practice demands a more dynamic medium than existing resources can provide and would benefit from being able to be updated in real-time from virtually any computer with internet access. Although there is no formal protocol in place for peer review, the informal peer review and fact-checking that will take place by means of use of this site will be invaluable. I believe that the familiar format of a Wiki, made popular by sites such as Wikipedia, will significantly help ease-of-use and navigation.
