This is a project in development as of 11/11/11 that is intended to be a reference for hematology/oncology professionals. Priorities of this project will initially consist of:

  1. Creating a database of chemotherapy agents.
  2. Creating an index of diseases.
  3. Creating a list of active BIDMC clinical trials that can be used by current providers.
  4. Creating a list of chemotherapeutic regimens, common order sets, including supportive medications, and references to primary literature (PubMed and directly to the abstract/full article).
  5. Creating checklists that can be used for patients starting therapy with particular regimens. Areas of focus will include: informed consent/discussion of side effects, supportive medications, dose/schedule adjustments, and the chemotherapy orders themselves.

The field of hematology/oncology is ever-changing, and I believe that the collaborative efforts of a group of dedicated contributors can result in a far more useful resource than one maintained by a sole person. The ever-changing nature of the practice demands a more dynamic medium than existing resources can provide and one which can be updated in real-time from virtually any computer with internet access. Although there is no formal protocol in place for peer review, the informal peer review and fact-checking that will take place by means of use of this site will be invaluable. I believe that the familiar format of a Wiki, made popular by sites such as Wikipedia, will significantly help ease-of-use and navigation.
