General information
Class/mechanism: Competitive direct thrombin inhibitor. Inhibition of thrombin, serine protease, inhibits the conversion of fibrinogen into fibrin in the coagulation cascade and subsequent development of thrombus. Dabigatran inhibits free thrombin, clot-bound thrombin, and thrombin-induced platelet aggregation.[1][2][3]
